چکیده

In this paper, we designed and implemented a method which can register and integrate range images obtained from different view points for building complete 3D object models. This method contains three major parts: (1) registration of range images and estimation of the parameters of rigid-body transformations, (2) integration of redundant surface patches and generation of triangulated mesh surface models, and (3) reduction of triangular mesh and texture mapping. We developed the RANSACbased DARCES technique to estimate the parameters of the rigid-body transformations between two partially-overlapping range images without requiring initial estimates. Then, we used a circular-ICP procedure to reduce the global registration error. We also used the consensus surface algorithm combined with the marching cube method to generate triangular meshes. Finally, by texture blending and mapping, we can then reconstruct a virtual 3D model containing both geometrical and texture information.

Detailed 3D reconstruction from multiview images

1. The problem While sparse 3D reconstructions of scenes suffice for popular applications such as photo-tourism, detailed 3D digital reconstruction of objects has applications in many fields such as computer graphics and cultural heritage preservation. Although laser scanning is usually employed for this purpose, detailed 3D reconstruction from multiview images is more cost-efficient. In this p...

Open Archive TOULOUSE Archive Ouverte (OATAO)

We present a novel approach to reconstruct a 3D object from images corresponding to two different viewpoints: we estimate the skeleton of the object instead of its surface. The originality of the method is to be able to reconstruct a complete tubular 3D object from only two input images. Unlike classical reconstruction methods like multiview stereo, this approach does not rely on interest point...

A Range Image Refinement Technique for Multi-view 3D Model Reconstruction

This paper presents a range image refinement technique for generating accurate 3D computer models of real objects. Range images obtained from a stereo-vision system typically experience geometric distortions on reconstructed 3D surfaces due to the inherent stereo matching problems such as occlusions or mismatchings. This paper introduces a range image refinement technique to correct such errone...

Multiview 3D reconstruction of the archaeological site at Weymouth from image series

Multiview (n-view, or multiple view) 3D reconstruction is the computationally complex process by which a full 3D model is derived from a series of overlapping images. It is based on research in the field of computer vision which in turn relies on older methods from photogrammetry. This report presents a multiview reconstruction tool chain composed from various freely available, open source comp...

3D Dense Object Reconstruction via Flexible Planar Patch Fitting

This paper addresses 3D dense object reconstruction from multiple calibrated images. Unlike most of the existing methods which use fixed-sized grid cells or seed disks to find planar object patches across the multiple views, our method allows flexible grid cells when computing planar patches. The reconstruction begins with extracting image features such as local min/max intensity points, or oth...
